Day 13 - Ace Ventura

Note: Don't forget to check out Day 12, which has also just been posted!

Following a very comfortable nights sleep, we awoke in high spirits for the day ahead. And shortly later, the spirits were raised even higher by a splendid breakfast of lucky charms (a sweet-tasting cereal sensation... possibly a little too sweet for first thing in the morning however), toasted bagels, sausages, eggs and bacon... washed down with a glass (or two) of orange juice. Delicious food? Shocker!

Once the energy baskets had been filled and frisbee garments donned, we headed down to the beach to meet up with the rest of the freestylers. The event is the 'Aloha Beach Festival'; a festival promoting healthy lifestyles with a focus on beach sports that is organised by freestyle legend Chipper "Bro" Bell. Along with freestyle frisbee... canoeing, kite surfing, regular surfing, frisbee dogs and live band performances are the other main sports/attractions. We first bumped into Doug and Mark, both of whom we had jammed with just two days ago in Santa Cruz. Shortly after we were joined Dan Cameronesi, John Weyand (or 'Z' to the freestyle community), Billy and the Schiller family (Dave, Amy & Brady). After an entertaining demonstration by Dave & Chipper in the grass performance area, we all went down to the beach a for a jam. The tide was on the rise but we still ended up having a good 2 hours of shredding time (in the language of disc, shredding = play freestyle successfully and continually). The experience of playing with these extremely talented artists was a cherished one, and something that we won't forget in a long time.

Once food had been digested we trooped back over to the grass area infront of the main stage for the event and took the opportunity to spend an hour or so showing our stuff to the dazzled public. We soon adapted to the dire wind which was swirling and changing tempo in a UK-style fashion, and pulled off many a hot combo under pressure.

A further hour was spent relaxing around the festival locale, before we all made a valiant attempt to move our jam back to the beach. The wind had completely lost the plot (having quadroupled in speed), and the tide wasn't doing much better - hence the required valiance. John sumarised this well as an "interesting experience" but both J's fully supported the suggestion to call it a day after about 10 minutes.

After saying au revoir to the other freestylers, ourselves, the Schillers and Dan drove back to our hotel. There, Dave, Amy & Dan were kind enough to spend some time chatting to us for our still-secret DiscCast specials that are to be released towards the end of the year. The J's then primped (any opportunity...) while the others took a dip in the hotel hot tub and swimming pool.

Before long, hunger was upon us, so we all walked over to a local sports bar called 'Rookees' where we also met up with Mark. Predictably, a delicious meal ensued. John went for a 'Wet Chicken Burrito' which turned out to be monster sized but exceedingly good, and Joe opted for the less risky but equally fulfilling 'Californian Chicken Melt'. We had a fantastic evening and enjoyed the chance to get to know everyone a lot better. Once the merry group could eat no more, we walked back to the hotel where the Schillers & Dan hopped into their automobile to head home for the night (Dan lives nearby) and the J's headed inside the realm of luxury.

The remainder of the evening at the hotel was spent doing laundry, writing blogs and chatting to a couple of local Californian girls who we seem to have bumped into several times during our short stay here.

Now we must say goodbye for another day,
"Goodbye".

On your bus ride back, make sure to command your driver to stop at House of Falafel in Sunnyvale, to continue your culinary odyssey. If the bus driver balks, we can make a separate trip.

YOU HAD LUCKY CHARMS! Very very jealous...but more importantly, did they contain the new hour glass shape? Blimey. You had a lot for breakfast that day.

Im sure doing your washing really impressed those infamous Californian girls! And Im pretty sure they are stalking you..or its just that you have an avid fan club.

I must say, my favourite quote today has to be 'The J's then primped.' Nothing more needs saying really. Oh, also, I must add that the challenge set by Jake has been most brilliantly met. Well done..what is it today..the J duo.

Frisbee Dogs! The K9 disc champs sounds like you boys are taking to heart the words of Piers Morgan from when you were on Britain's Got Talent!

Great that you got to jam with the Schillers - the current mixed pairs world champs I believe.

On Aristotle...
"Excellence is an art won by training and habituation. We do not act rightly because we have virtue or excellence, but we rather have those because we have acted rightly. We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit"

It is obvious that you are taking this as your moto in the gastronomic department, as well as in the extra legroom emergency seating areas's and of course the 'Jake J Duo' challenge.

Keep up the good work

Love Dad (Greg)

Dear The Dynamic J Duo,

Glad to see that just prior to attending a "festival promoting healthy lifestyles" you enjoyed a low calorie breakfast of cereals, bagels, sausages, eggs and bacon.

I am disappointed by the distinct absence of Falafel. I have no more to say on this subject.

It's good to hear that you're pulling some decent crowds with your jamming too - I bet you get a lot from "performing" as well as simply practising, so let's hope they keep coming to watch! :D

As for the case of doing laundry then flirting with Californian ladies... I sincerely hope that it is simply the logical fallacy of post hoc ergo propter hoc and that no causal link exists. One assumes, to make myself clear, that not all of your clothes were being washed at once.

Indeed - does Kerry know you're with other girls?

Boys..enough of these dad 'classy comments'..its about your washing again? I think Jen's right..(is it Jen Wileman or Jen Lee pls?)The Californian girls are probably stalking you..the way to 'check 'em out' is to ask 'em if they know how you can get your laundry 'pressed..in time for your next 'primp'!!

(I can already hear Geoff 'recycling' some of these phrases in this year's panto!!)

Jose I am glad to see from the fantastic photos that your sunglasses are finally approaching the region of your head! Cool Joe..so Joe cool! And finally...have you cut your finger love? Did I see a plaster? Oh heck!

Hope you are both putting the sun cream on and John, where's your cap? Love from 'your other mother'!

Take it easy lemon squeezy!

Hugs, Rose

Hi Boys
Well I thought it was about time Joe had a bit of advice from his godmother about the perils of mixing with these 'Californian Girls' I think they probably are stalking you. Go for it thats what I say!! You need to ask your mum about her antics a few years ago when we had our first big holiday alone!! To the windy and very rainy Lake District. I had a fine time keeping your mum on the straight and narrow Joe, I can tell you!!!
Seriously though, it looks like you are having the time of your lives. It was so good to see photos of Mary and Bob looking so well.
Now that I have found you I will keep checking up on your adventures.
Look after yourselves, keep safe Jill x x

Hey guys,

First off, on food, Good call on the lucky charms, and I was impressed with Johns "Burrito Beast"!

Glad to hear you're getting chance to jam in between 'bumping into' all these girls, and i can't believe no-one has yet commented on the halarity that is the sentence to the right; "John will be recieving both clock and counter throws" - genius! Made me laugh anyway....

Stay cool (easy if you know how to primp)

The square root of Beth-squared.

By the way, me and the blog are not the best of friends as dad forced me to copy, paste and edit all 20 gazillion pages on to a word document for all our friends and family who dont have the internet, then my computer crashed and i lost it all :(.
